Real people find it easier. http://www.ivu.org/recipes/european/scottish.html Scots barley and mushroom casserole.
However, taxonomically, mushrooms are not plants but fungus. When I was in school (back when Ben Franklin was playing with electricity), all life was either animal or plant, but now there are five (and by some counts six) kingdoms, with fungoids in their own non-photosynthetic kingdom.

In a dark dream someone tempted me with a hotdog.
As I ate it I contemplated the sin I had committed.

I woke up and made another pot of vegetable soup.

The act of methodically dicing the rutabaga was my penance.
The watery purity of the tomato soothed me.
Tears of joy ran down my cheek as I sliced the onions.
The aroma of herbs, the subtle scent of mushroom
Sent me into a state of euphoria.

I'll need to look up rutabaga (?).

There's a snowstorm of articles on why vegi or near vegi makes it to 100 yrs plus in life, at the moment.

None of them mentions the poetic side of vegi!

A meat-lover's possible reply :

God provides us with animals to eat.
Their flesh like ours, the consumption more efficient.
Oh, high-energy life !
The flame burns bright and fast !
We are the kings of the animal kingdom.
