Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...the kids at MIT come up with some wild hacks as they are known. My two faves are "smoots" (a unit of measurement equal to the height of B1's mentioned Henry (actually Oliver) Smoot, class of '62, the Harvard (or Mass. Ave.) Bridge being precisely 364.4 smoots (one smoot = 5'7") as measured in 1958).

More recently, MIT students placing a Cambridge police car atop the MIT dome in 1994 is my other favorite hack. Actually it was a wooden car frame with key authentic metal car parts assembled overnight to create the illusion of a real Cambridge police car.
