I used to hate him, but now I've become hooked on reading his books. Since I was off this summer, I decided to catch up on leisure reading. Somehow I picked up one of his novels, "Christine", and then have become hooked on his novels ever since. I think I've already burned through eight of his novels since June. Yeah, I am such a bookworm! LOL
An aside - I also am reading "When The Opposite Sex Isn't". Fascinating read! It discusses MTFs and their sexual orientations and how it can change throughout their transitional progress.

Heh, Yeah, I have read most of those books... Currently reading The Dead Zone.
Do you like his lengthy novels or short stories compliations?

I enjoy both but the lengthy novels really pull you in. It started when i saw the movie versions and i wanted to see how they differed from the novels.
"It" is my favorite though.

too many movies.
he a strange guy too.
he also writes more then horror as well.
and he hangs out in new england.
if you know where you can get a chance to see him at the country store.
i kinda dont like horror that much.
sci fi horror yes.
aliens stuff like that yea.
i really not in fiction novels.
the writer tend to be very narrow.
type cast allmost.
i like indies that what get me.
the human story too.
we forget that somtimes as we go off into our fanasty world.
i rather look at the life of a few people in a slum in rio looking down on the rich apartments below.
or a story of a trans in iran.
or something deeply human that tells the story of us all how we struglle to make our own way.
i know the ireader now is all the rage.
selling like hotcakes.
the ipod of new decade.
it last about as long.
too.

the dead zone is good one of the few i liked.
walken was so good in it.
but he good in anything.
the only guy who can be so dramtic and pull it off.
more cow bell please.
the dead zone is about what choices we make if the choice was so unthinkable.
it such a hard concept to think off.
if you notice his writing is allways about that.
choices and turns between good and evil.
the stand or stand by me.
he allways beyound the simple idea of good and evil.
horror.
fate.
i think he so liked because of the choices you wonder about in his book.
the all face a choice between good and eveil and what must be done.
it easy to think we all kill the bad guy if he some crazy killer clown but what if he the future president.
he alos deals alot in loss.
personal loss alot effect his storys.
i think people relate to that alot.
why he so liked but again i really dont look forward to next book like pizza day.

I like how he refrences characters in alot of his books in other books , it makes it feel like they all exist in the same universe.

I often like King's movies, but his writing style doesn't draw me in: overly long and unoriginal prose style. I prefer his short fiction. My favorite writers are more inventive stylists, like Brautigan, Gardiner, Le Guin, Borges, Octavia Butler, and many others, each of whom has a unique voice that pulls me in.

I just thought I'd mention that I like the look and feel of the old covers of King's novels 20 years ago than the reprinted versions with new covers. The new covers look a lot less scary and too Hollywood looking, wouldnt you say?
Here's few examples... the newer reprints are at the top, the original covers are at the bottom.

* bump * I took a lot of work to put those pics in, lol.
Even if you don't read Stephen King, what is your opinion of the original versus newer cover prints?

I prefer the original cover art in these.

I like the original artwork.
They change them sometimes to tie into the movie release , for example my copy of "IT" has Tim Curry's Pennywise the clown on the cover , and "The Stand" has Gary Sinese and Molly Ringwald on it.
If i were wealthy i'd buy first edition hardcovers for my private library.

I've only read a handful of King's work, but liked it.
I agree on the earlier covers. When they used art rather than shopped photos to draw you in. I know one or two of the artists that did the work.
I had the pleasure of meeting King in St. Louis back in 1981/82. A unique individual, to say the least. Very personable and not at all what you might expect of someone that rights such scary/creepy stuff.
If you are a really big King fan, you want to catch the past couple of week's of the Candorville comic strip where he is a guest at an author's talk in the strip. :)

He's also a big Ramones fan , his son is a good writer as well.
They are making a new movie version of It and Pet Sematary.

Wow, Beardedone, lucky you to have met Stephen King! He must be pushing his 60s now, right?
I am amazed he is still writing today, although I can see his writing style/prose has changed a lot, esepcially with his recent releases like "Just After Sunset" and "Under The Dome". He is writing for the younger and dumber generation now. lol.
I wonder why more and more authors are using photoshop or digital pictures for their book covers those days. Is it because it s cheaper than having to pay the artist to do it?

I love his early books, especially "Cujo". That book scared me to death. A rabid dog thrilling story line with lots of twists and turns. Carrie of course was a great book.

Carrie will be always a classic; I think that movie was one of the better movies to make the transition from the book to the big screen among his movies.

Which one?
The original w/ Sissy Spacek or the tv remake w/ Angela Bettis.
The remake changed the ending.

Angela Bettis is a great actress though.
If you haven't seen her work then i suggest "May" and "The Toolbox Murders" (remake) and "Sick Girl".
Those are 3 standout performances (May being my fave)
