so you dont have alot of money and want a netbook.
no fear the asus eeepc 1001p is here.
this baby sports a new pinetrail atom chip that love you lon time.
8 hrs is really posible.(dont belive the makers stats of 11 hrs none of there starts is ever real world)
10 inch lcd with lots of space and 3 1/2 lbs makes it go anywhere.
there a 1005p model with wireles N and bluethooth /larger drive for 75 bucks more.
i bought mine at micro center 2 weeks ago for 300 and well now it 279.

i wanted a 12 inch ion and really could not wait for the dual core pinetrail /ion 2 but it had to meat the requirement of the main leg of a asian flight 12 hrs.
so it had to be a single core pinetrail no ion because they will only go 3-4 hrs at best and at most 5 hrs in dual mode.
the 1001p has no bluetooth or n and a smaller drive but none of them i wanted anyway as i dont have n up and bluetouth is very picky what it surport to.
the hard drive i toss out in favour of a ssd gen 2 barefoot model i happen to have.
the hard drive is a 2.5 inch sata 2 not one of them pci ones that suck but it allmost imposible to replace.
asus made no trap door and made it next to imposible to upgrade even at expert level.
ps they could had a trap door so easy but they dont want people upgrading netbooks they want throw away.
it also has a mess of bloatware and trust me just reinstall or uninstall it all before trying it.
the atom n450 1.66 might be kind weak compared to a core2 or duo and wont play flash well on 720p but all in all it is works on mine np.
it runs alot cooler then a 900 thats for sure and batt life is around 8 and there even a way to pop in a 1005p batt as there the same exact model really.
the solid state drive was detected achi mode works no problem something most chipssets have issues with.
no stutter with the gen 2 drives but my drive was slower then the ocz i poped in my brother 4 year old laptop.
could be a limit of the pinetrail or the fact i used a used ssd that i have no firmware for due to fact it a test model from china.
i installed windows 7 enterprize and yes aero works and is way more powerfull then win 7 starter.
i also apply the win 7 netbook 1024x768 tweek so it veiw pages np.
not bad at all even if there only 1 gig of mem.
remeber i needed 12 hrs without a charge for one leg of a asian flight plus another 4-5 twice so close to 18 hrs i need and well with this model and a 1005p battery it very posible to watch a movie,send emails when i have wifi,and make a flight seem shorter.
so if you need a cheap new netbook that have long run times look at this model.
if you wanna play lots of hulu or sites like that well you may wanna pony up the $500 plus for a 12'' dual core ion model but dont expect alot of run time.
the dual core pinetrail ion will offer dual mode but they still wont come close to the run times and run alot hotter.
it also makes for a nice photography tool that you can uplaod and see but dont expect photediting and really who dose that on a small lcd anyway.
way i see it is you want long batt time,power options and light when your out in the feild shooting and if you drop it well your only out 300 bucks something great about cheap netbooks no one thinks of when they throwing down 700 plus.
just dont expect a ultraportable like a sony tz or a ibm but then again last thing you want is cumstoms to sieize ur 3 grand notebook or it get lost.
yes customs/tsa dose do that and the waiting list is 2 years i hear.
its randon done so they may copy ,inspect or take any device they feel like with no reason why and the backlog is really bad so if you fly alot expect it.
