as often seems to be the case, he wasn't the only notable to pass away yesterday. he was joined by Gene McCarthy. both were passionate about the human conditon, one exposing its flaws with the razor's edge of humor, the other struggling for more justice in society.

both will be missed & we're unlikely to see their like again.

hoping you're not serious, but just in case....he was a long time U.S. Senator, Democratic Presidential candidate and early, vocal critic of the war in Viet Nam...oh & he retired to teach English literature and poetry
