With no offense meant you shouldn't really stereotype all christians. While a large percentage of them are narrow minded there are also many that are more open minded.
I have a friend of mine that is a devoted church goer and a strong christian. When I told her of the fact that I have two close friends that are transgender her opinion was that we are all Gods children so she will never judge anyone. She looks forward to getting to meet them eventually and hopefully become friends with them. I know the amount of religious types like that are few and far between but they are still out there.

I'll actually interject here. Although I'm no Christain (although I'm supposed to be) I also fall on the fence of not stereotyping all Christians. My question is whether the church of this person you told about your transgendered friends shares the same viewpoints as her "We are all God's children so she will never judge anyone" And if so, do they work to promote that image of diversity? If not, then why does she still belong? Just my 2 cents for now.

I can't presume to speak for what other members of her church feel on the subject. She has said the church teaches to love all God's children but this subject has never been one that has came up. She is a person the is a genuine person and has the most true of hearts. She doesn't have the capability to ever have bad feelings towards anyone unless it was someone that made a personal attack on her.I can honestly say that if they were to ever show hatred or discrimination towards anyone she would leave that church due to them being hypocrites. Not sure if that answers the question but I hope it does.

Just want to say that I was flipping through the channels before bed 2 nights ago and the phrase "gender identity disorder" caused me to stop on... the Christian channel (forget it's exact name). The show was "The Carpenter's Shop" and they had a clinical psychologist speaking on the show. They concluded that transgendered or the "gender identity disturbed" all have father issues that causes it. The clinical psychologist was promoting a book called "How to Prevent Your Child from becoming Homosexual" (or a similiar title, don't have it exact) and was also talking about how to "correct" your children so that they don't end up leading and "empty life". I've never viewed Christians themselves as the problem, but the religion as a whole. I can say that I've finally been swept over the line now though. I simply can't justify anyone belonging to a religion that sponsers programing such as this.

I am definitely not a Christian but I was very moved a couple of weeks ago after the muderers of Anthony Walker, the black teenager killed in a vicious race attack in England, were sentenced. The victim's mother was asked, after the trial, how she felt about her son's killers. Though she was clearly struggling with her grief, she replied that she was a Christian and so she had forgiven them.

It was without question the most dignified, moving and eloquent media moment I have seen this year.

I think there are many people out there who call themselves Christian who would do well to try to live up to Mrs Walker's example. As we all could.
