Is it because they are so beautiful and I notice them more? Or are other countries more repressed and trans people elsewhere aren't as open?

there are tons of transgendered women in the Philippines, you'd see them on every block, on every hood, every corner of the neighborhood.

There are many, old and extremely young. I go back every year for the past ten years and I lived there in Pangasinan for 5 months when I turned 18. My dad was stationed in Subic when it was still a base and we have family friends there. And of course I have been there with girls I have dated here to visit their families. I know that mainstream culture is critical but the families are really supportive in many cases.

I posted some statistics here a couple of years back. While it's very hard to establish hard stats, the percentage of the population of Tgirls in the PI is roughly the same as in Thailand.

a lot of transgendered women in the Philippines, yes, even combined the number of transgirls in the USA, Philippines will still have a larger ts population, With that saying, TS girls in the Philippines doesn't have rights like changing their name and gender, ammending the birth certificate, marriage, employment discrimination which is very common that's why a lot of transgirls doesn't go to the business field, or a field that requires to wear this uniform, to have this haircut or else you'd be fired so on and so forth, which is seriously disappointing, being a ts in the Philippines, you can't fight for your rights cause you dont have any. A ts girl would go petition the supreme court to change her name and gender legally but would get denied because in the Philippines sex is not determined by the genitalia, sex is determined with the XY or XX Chromosomes. sad

Is STRAP making any progress? There is strength in numbers and with a little organization and support from friends and family you surely could be a force to be reckoned with...

When sex is determined by genitalia then a problem is created whereby some transgender persons will have SRS when that is not their real preference. Castration by the state in return for perceived advantages. SRS should remain a private choice, without incentive provided by the state.

Choosing one's own gender identification would be much more satisfactory, but still that does not help gays who still cannot receive same sex visas in some countries.

What is really needed is wider awareness and acceptance and the goverment keeping out of the gender definition business.

Ivan.
btw: Nice to find this forum :)

i really hate the laws here in our country. its like so unfair.... why cant we change our gender into f when we get a sex change. no wonder we are stucked being a 3rd world country cause the government has such low iqs and super conservative mindsets. if we will based our laws by the church rulings and conservatists... the philippines will always be a sad country... say yes to same sex marriage say yes to lesbian, transgender and gay rights... and die die die to all stupid law makers... aholes...

each country is different in the way trans are treated.
i spend some time in the phils and i have to say trans can be treated very well and sometimes not so well.
a women will comment on the street that a trans is pretty or such.
many people will not be shy and talk to them open but some rude guys might cat call or throw a joke.
in the usa most people would stare rudly or try to pretend they dont see them.
yes usa has laws but a few years back the city of boston went up in arms over the mbta (train/rail) building a trangender wash room.
even as boston leads the way in civil rights and even as boston is going to take on the defence of marrige act on a civil rights ground the people often seem to be indiffent to trans in alot of ways.
iran may allow sex change and change it on id,birth cert etc and allow marrige but one must look at the whole picture.
i think in the phils trans live very open and normal lifes, going to the mall or anywhere you can see them.
laws may protect your civil rights but they dont change people's minds.

Massachusetts is the first state to bring legal suit against the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), though actually basing the legal case on states' rights rather than civil rights (that is, that the federal government overreached itself with the act since marriage should be determined by states, not by the federal government). And now that it's the law in DC that the marriages of same sex couples in other jurisdictions are honored as valid in DC, the next move there is to legalized same sex marriage altogether. Change is coming to the USA, slow though it may seem at times.

I hope that the situation improves in the PI as well. Different situation though.

yea i heard i know martha she was da here middlesex i think she has a great case too as in the case of states rights and on civil rights i think she try the civil rights first as the feds really hate state rights issues and the repubicans have allways been been big on that one.
could be a uphill battle on that.
there alot of issues over state rights one is the cali dope thing and mass is also looking at a full legal sale/grow of pot.
that be a huge state right right battle cause it will be in conflict with federal laws and everyone could be charged in a federal court.

some of the bigest court battles were state rights issues.
guns.
slaves.
civil rights in the south jim crow law.
marrige -negro
voting.

i say if she want repubican surport she take it state right issue and the surpreme court like to side with the state rights issues most times except when it in conflict with civil rights.

Even Science has given up trying to determine sex based on structure of Chromosones.
Remember the sprinter ,Semenya ?
The reports all came to roughly the same conclusion that is not scientifically possible to determine with absolute certainity a persons gender from the structure of their chromosones.
Many people have a latent Y chromosone at the end of string XXXXX 's
causing confusion and uncertainty in the use of chromosones.

Theres a monthly Chinese meetup that I attend, and while there arent necessarily more guys than girls, among the active learners there are way more guys than girls. I dont really have an explanation for this. In my Chinese college classes there were an even number of both genders.
