This is weird. I was just talking to someone about this subject this morning.
Looks like we have something in common because my greatest fear is also dying alone.

Losing my sense of self, forgetting the hard and costly lessons learned from past mistakes, being alive with a mind that fully functions, but in a body that does not respond, in essence a prisoner within my own body. Losing my only living relative my mother to Alzheimers. To me that would be worse that losing her to death because I would have access to her body but not to her heart and mind. My final fear is being responsible for someone losing their life by my hand.

Being alone, growing old and the process of dying (the part of going from here to there) esp. if I don't pass away in my sleep.

NoOne
11-27-2005, 10:59 PM
yeah, i wanna go in my sleep too. there's so many things that can happen before then tho... just remember NO ONE who was murdered probably ever thought they would be murdered, and NO ONE who got aids or cancer probably ever thought they would get it, NO ONE who got hit by a bus probably ever thought they would die like that, NO ONE who gets in a car crash probably though that's how they would die either. It's so scary. WE ARE LIVING IN A DEATHTRAP. :(

But maybe since death is inevitable we shouldn't fear it as it is the only thing guarunteed in life.

Calls in a question of faith. You may still be afraid to die but if you have a firm belief in your religion's afterlife you can take off some of the edge.

i have the hugest fear of Fire. anything that emmits fire scares the pants off of me. heat is fine, actual fire is bad.
also Nuclear Attacks scare me. i have the odd anxiety that nuclear war will break out when Im in a slow line at the grocery store & my last moments before being vaporized is wasted because i wanted snacks. Luckily Toronto has a crazy maze of underground shopping areas & stuff so if anything apoclyptic happened. Id run there.

Interesting thread. Death is part of life. We are all on a journey. I've been with people when they died and I don't fear dying alone. I do fear bad things happening to my children, more than anything else.

no matter who is around you when you die, you still die alone. you are mostly likely the only one experiencing the sensation of life leaving your body. so there you are alone in your last thoughts regardless of who is around.
of course this is my pessimistic non-denominational thinking.

... I have this recurring dream, or nightmare. It goes like this. I go to class and the teacher announces there's a final exam and I realize that I never ever stepped foot in class so I know I'm screwed.

Now, this has never happened to me, but I fear it... and I've been out of school for a while now.

I also fear some bugs.

Finals fear-- I was still waking up 10 years after I graduated BA Hons in a cold sweat that the finals were upon me and I hadn't done the work-- surprising how many others get it too.

i'm not american Duh! i have no idea how politics work there, obviously its broken because that nut got hired into office twice Duh!

one of my biggest fears is when the USA does finally run themselves out of oil thier govt will start heading north to take ours. i see whats happened in iraq. no wmd's, its all about the oil. weve already had dick cheney up here checking out our oilsands a couple of months ago, we have DEA agents up here busting pot growers on OUR sovereign soil. no, no personal fear of mine (bugs, spiders, stupid drivers etc) compares to the fear i have that the US govt is so willing and able to come up here into my country to enforce thier flawed laws, or to take our oil by force.

keep in mind, i'm not bashing americans in general, i like peoples of all nationalities and flavours (MmmMm tasty!) just thier govt is getting away with murder and running thier country into the ground, stripping away the rights of thier citizenry. i wonder how many american people realize that the right to bear arms didnt mean just the right to own guns, the right to bear arms is the right to own guns to use against thier political figure heads when the govt does things like stripping away rights (reads: dept homeland security) starting wars over nothing but lies like in iraq. and The People stand by and take it, that scares the shit out of me. i'm not a tinfoil hat wearing type, no conspiracy theories or anything, i watch the news, read lots of stuff from valid sources. and when i put it all together it just looks all wrong. there is something hugely wrong with spending billions!!! of dollars on a war when hundreds of thousands of people in thier own country are homeless, hungry and without adequate healthcare. that really scares me.

They could be benign and just cysts. People get them from time to time. Nobody seems to know what they are or how they get there, but think of it as a clogged zit. If your balls hurt in ANY way, that could be something more serious, like a tumor/cancer. Your doctor is going to take blood samples from you and will need to examine them (yes, he is going to be examining down there... ouch). Your bloodwork will give the docs clues as to what could be wrong with you. When they checked me for cancer back in 98, they had to take 4 vials of blood. Every year they do bloodwork on me and take 4 to 6 vials. They'll also check for possible problems, such as anemia.

If you think you have cancer don't fuck around with it. Having had a tumor it's not pleasant and can cause lots of other side effects (i.e. in your case having the penis removed). In my case I had severe headaches, memory loss, massive personality shift. hallucinations (that one sounds better than it was) and a bunch of other things.

As to my biggest fear, I know it's totally irrational and not something I'll need to experience (I hope lol) but I'm deathly afraid of the living dead. Zombies literally scare the crap out of me.
Other than that good friends dying or not being able to help friends in need are both pretty scary to me.

Oh, pullllleeeeaaaazzzzeeeee. Are you afraid of aliens flying down from Uranus to take over the Shangri-La that is Canada as well? That's just about as likely to happen as any invasion by the US.

You are one of those tinfoil hat wearing types if you believe that propaganda from the lunatic fringe. Before you think I'm some sort of backwards, over-all wearing hillbilly, let me tell you that I neither voted for Bushy, nor do I support most of his policies. But I can't let you spew that garbage without calling you on it. And since Bushers approval rating is spiraling down towards single digits, you can be assured that most of my fellow Americans don't approve of his policies either.

There are two paramedics at my firehouse who recently came back from Iraq so I know what's really going on there as I've talked with them extensively since their return. I can't just sit by and let you denigrate their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their fallen brothers.

So you're all for murdering any politician whose views differ from mine, huh? And BTW, it's the Patriot Act that encroached on various civil liberties, not the Homeland Security Act. Personally, I didn't mind it if it helps thwart the next towelhead who tries to blow up a building here. Chicago and LA are the most likely targets so I'll probably one of the people who'll have to deal with the aftermath.

Just because you watch the nightly news and read a couple of online journals, it doesn't make you an expert on America. Could I say the same if I watched the Red & Green Show, the MacKenzie Brothers and any NHL game? All of them are just as creditable sources on Canada if your beliefs are any indication of what their content is. You're just regurgitating what some talking head spouted at you during dinnertime.

There is just no freaking way that America will EVER cross the 49th parallel. You are our closest ally, even closer than England. We do more business with than any other country on the face of the Earth. You're our biggest trade partner. There's enough oil out there to last centuries. More and more is being discovered every day. There is a reason why our border is the longest ungaurded border in the world. Mahalo

Matt

i dont have a tinfoil hat, i have a nice stainless steel coffee table though :P

i guess you havent figured out peak oil yet.....

i never said i knew alot about your govt, just what i've been force fed via popular media outlets and word of mouth from people that live in the US. if this isnt what the truth is, sensationlism aside, then what is? when i have american friends telling me "hey you got it easy living in canada cuz it sucks living here because<insert political reason here>" or friends in iraq telling me "you got it easy living in canada because<insert political reason here>" and most of the reasons are about the chizling away of personal rights and freedoms.

i dont live in the US but i do fear for my friends there. all i have ever known of the US (mostly southern) was racism, hatred and bigotry. people running around with side arms, i couldnt imagine any reason i where i would need to pack heat to go to the walmart...... and it all boils down to poor political moves. i'm not saying our govt is much better, thier a bunch of rejects in parliment here. but at least they think further ahead when it comes to the point of going to war.

i didnt post what i did earlier to start some lame pissing match, i was just expressing my fears, as the parent poster asked. some of my fears may be valid, some may not, but you are nobody to be pissing on anyones fears or worries.

Not wanting to go off topic here, but as to big unguarded border with canada that's utter crap. As of Nov 7th I think (may not be til jan 1st) passports are now required for travel through the border. Have you crossed the border lately? Coming back from canada I've gotten the 3rd degree since 9/11.. we're not the only country ever hit by terrorists but we sure act like it.
Perhaps trying diplomacy and not fighting proxy wars in 3rd world nations might result in us getting along better. (It's not "our" fault the terrorists hate us but we sure seem to have no problem making them hate us more).

Also while I'm merely a 4th generation black Irish immigrant I thought I'd toss out that I find your use of the term towelhead to be rather idiotic. I've got middle-eastern friends and muslim friends. Try and keep things on the up and up, it's being the better person after all really.

Now to take this back to the topic: I've realized I have one more fear I forgot about: Waking up stupid. When the heavy symptoms of my brain tumor started to manifest I had trouble talking. I knew what I wanted to say I just couldn't quite manage to make my mouth move to form words. That gave way to being unable to think very rapidly (answering questions like "what can I get you" at a restaurant usually took me 30-40 seconds to understand).
I'd rather die than be stuck in a place of stupidity. I've been lucky enough throughout my life to be able to rely on my intelligence. I know I'm smart but am thankful rather than egotistical about it. Losing something I've had all my life that I can count on was terrifying when it was just temporary, losing it for good would be worse than anything imaginable.
