I've always preferred "just a phone" and been using the Pebl for the last few yrs and it's finally died so I'm getting encouraged to get an internet type phone with features. I'm on tmobile right now and would like to keep my number but not a deal breaker.
Obviously the Iphone is the most prominent choice. Does anyone have any other suggestions - or pros or cons on the iphone?
Thanks

The new Blackberry Bold looks really good too. I'm also an "old line cell phone" guy: I use the phone (horrors!) to talk to people. But much as I dread having to design websites for cellphone displays (uggh) and texting, both are inevitable, and the other features desirable. I'm dead tired of trying to txt msg sum1 on a rglr cll phn! So my next upgrade will be something in the lines of a Blackberry Bold or iPhone or....?

I am on verizon and own the samsung omnia which runs windows mobile 6.1 which i find to be great. I think it is better than the iphone in the fact that it is windows for one and has a 5 megapixal camera.

I'm like you 2 other fossils & only reluctantly pushed myself to upgrade my cell phone recently to get into the 21st Century. Previously all I wanted was good call quality & battery life for work.
You want to get a gsm phone so you can use it abroad by buying the sim card locally, preferably a quad band. T mobile/ATT are your only choices there, I seamlessly moved my ph.# from Sprint to ATT no prob.
Honestly I can't tell you your biz, but as a media entrepeneur (sp?) I can't see any reason to NOT get an iPhone. You should be figuring out ways to get your product on it.
I don't know if it's quad band, but my buddy says the hack is very easy to use it in Europe where he is a lot.
I just got a Nokia N78 (I couldn't justify the expense of the excellent N95) because it has video & a better still camera with flash than the iPhone, & is small. Also none of the iPhone battery hassles. Nokia uses the Symbian OS 3G & it's pretty good & they are opening an app store soon. But the internet experience isn't as smooth as an iPhone, but it is much cheaper per month. ( They just released a good N85 & the upcoming N97 should be looked at very closely.) The iphone is a theft target overseas as well.
The only other type you need look at closely are some of the new Blackberry devices, I defer to others on these, but they are the other quality platform for biz users & they are jumping into the mutimedia arena now.

The iPhone and its competitors look better than sex. But I can't give you advice because I'm a virgin -- about those fancy internet phones, that is.
I'm waiting for the economy to improve. I think when I get a pay raise it may one of my first splurges. Right now my wages are flat while the cost of living is increasing, which inhibits splurging. C'mon economy !

My Current Phone: The Nokia E71. You can buy it unlocked on amazon. Then pop in the Tmobile Sim and you are off to the races.
