if driving 110 MPH is against the law, why do cars even have the option to go that fast?????????

The engineering that allows that performance also accounts for a great many other qualities in a car, from safety to handling. Most directly, many times you need the power to accelerate quickly, and that same power translates into high speed (if you push it).

Because sometimes you just need to go around people. :)
I've only ever gone 105. What kind of car do you have? Mine's a Z3.

i have an old school honda civic 1984 and its got the smallest engine honda made for thier canadian cars. i shudder to think of doing 100mph in it. i know that doing 120kph in it is almost heart stoppingly scary, it sounds like the whole car is trying to tear itself apart  it looks much faster standing still then it actually is going down the highway. this coming spring all that will change as i have a whole garage full of new-newer parts that have to be installed. i've decided that going really fast in a 20+ year old car isnt a great idea, 20 year old car = 20 year old worn out parts. on friday i went to pick up my hubby from work so we could go for lunch, we didnt even make it out of the parking lot at his work before my drivers side cv joint broke taking with it my 20+ year old ball joint. all i can say is that i'm very very very lucky that didnt happen on the highway. oh, and i had to repair it myself with the help of a whole class of autobody students and instructors watching me and giving me help when they could. i got a couple of those "girls cant fix cars" comments but the rest of them were asking me questions about what i've done to my car and if i needed help (thier not allowed to help when thier in class)
just picture it, a tall slender woman wearing a nice new pair of tight ass jeans and a fitted top with axle grease up to her elbows and long hair flowing. working on her custom painted whip.
funny thing is, 1/3 of the people in these classes that go through that shop are women becoming automotive refinishers. WOMAN POWER!!!!! lol

When I had my Z3 in the shop back in 98 ($10k worth of damages), I remember flooring my loaner, a Mistubishi Mirage, just to see how fast it would go. I think it was a 3 cylinder (strange number, I know), 4 valve or maybe 4 cylinder, 3 valve engine. Top speed was 87 mph. Damn slow thing. Also, the steering wheel was permanent turned clockwise at about 30 degrees, so I assume that loaner car was in some kind of accident, too.
Ahh, the speed days. That was when I was too much of a boy.
