We all, and the Dineh (Navaho) in particular have lost a great voice as Tony Hillerman passed away at the age of 83. He wrote 18 novels (I've read about half) which somehow combine great mystery writing with powerful and sensitive insight into both the mundane and spiritual life of the Dineh and the conflicting forces between the Anglo and the Indian cultures of the southwest.
