Here's a true story to put a smile on your face.

A man went angling. As he went to his fishing spot he saw something discarded in the reeds and picked it up.

His catch was poor. But when he examined the stuff he'd picked up, he found he had 4 paintings.

We've got a TV programme here where experts in every field of antiques evaluate objects the public bring in, so the angler decided to take his paintings to see if an art expert could tell him anything about them.

The first 3 the art expert said should fetch about $4,000 in total at auction.

He moved on to the 4th and said it was a pity it was in poor condition.

For it was an original Winslow Homer, America's top water colour artist of the 19th century. In good condition it would have been extremely valuable.

As it wasn't in good condition it was worth only ............ $60,000.

The Winslow Homer below is one that the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art raves about.

Wow! Now that's a catch! Too bad the Homer wasn't in better shape, but still--! How did the paintings end up in the drink, I wonder?
