The news media is pretty stupid and wasteful, if you ask me. I just glanced at a news show, not sure if it was MSNBC or Fox, but they were showing footage of a building where I guess OJ is being held, or the courthouse where he is, whatever, point is, what the hell do they need a helicopter flying around taking pictures of a building for, what does that add to the story? Truthfully, I guess the OJ story is getting so much coverage because there is no other news to report on, like the war, government, or politics, healthcare coverage, immigration, the environment, or almost anything else that might have a bearing on your actual life.

Right--what's the point of a helicopter taking pics of a building?! I was sick & tired of OJ 10 years ago.....

Good point. I guess they're trying to relive the good old days when OJ was chased by a helicopter, circa 1994.
I have a theory that the news media has created a lot of fear in this country (USA), leading to a strong conservatism. We have a vast number of media outlets, all competing for our attention. It's generally known that bad news like crime is what best catches people's attention. So we get bombarded by bad news and everyone has the impression we are under siege by criminals. Even when there's no information to report, the reporters will speculate and bring on experts to talk. The resulting paranoia has contributed to the buildup of massive police forces, widespread ownership of guns designed to kill people, and a huge prison population - the largest per capita in the world. And I believe the media fuels a lot of this. Turn the TV off. Read a novel.

The helicopters and press are now on their way to Jena, LA. O.J. will be old news until the protest is over.
