What's the story behind your Member Name?

Some are rather obvious (i.e. names), but a lot of them are seemingly random to the uninitiated. The thought came to me when I posted a greeting to bluejay in his welcome thread. As for my own member name, it's a nickname my buddies gave me that's a take off on my last name which is spelled funky compared to how it is written. So all you guys and gals, what are the stories behind yours?

Back when I was younger I saved a friends life while he was drowning in a river, and He used to go whenever he saw me "There's the man who beat the River", well over the years it was shortened to just River, people started picking up on it, and that's now what people know me as. The only people use my real name are family, and whenever I was in trouble with a girlfriend.

Mine is a nickname I got when I started out in business, all I had was a very very small track loader/backhoe, so my mechanic and others started calling me tonka, or midget, for midget motors, maker of the King Midget, which was located in my town. It was pretty annoying when the guys would call me midget in front of women though. Anyway, its not the size of your equipment but how you use it. I like Tonka though, I have tonka stickers on my trucks and on my skidsteer. Thank you for listening.

Well you see I am not very original.. It goes like this.. Shellie is short for Michelle which is the female surname of Michael my birth name. Dee is my last initial of my given name.. kinda hokie I know.. giggle.

Anyway since beginning my transition i have been considering a name change to something that is completely original. In this consideration I have to think about my sister-in-law who is called Shelly (her name is Rochelle) and I have a cousin named Michelle.

The other reason and some of you girls might understand this, I have associated Shellie_dee with many a porn site and picture of myself and as I transition it has become clear to me that I just dont want to be thought of a girl like that I want to be thought of as a woman..
