Has anyone ever experienced one? I was involved in a hit and run yesterday. Someone just plowed right into me and kept on going. It's a very common occurence here in Philly, especially this year. People just do not care anymore. Thankfully, they caught the other driver a few blocks away. Surprisingly it wasn't a young person. It was a middle aged male, no license, plenty of unpaid tickets and a warrant out already. I guess miracles do happen.
What a way to start off the weekend. Not to mention the 5 hours I spent in emergency. I'm sore and banged up, but I'll try to give updates when I can.
Have a good weekend everyone. BE SAFE!

I hope you're alright, Raven. My recommendation is to see a chiropractor to check out any possible misalignment or whiplash which can happen so easily after any sort of auto collision and sometimes don't manifest until they become much more serious months or years later.
I'm glad they caught the guy and I hope your car wasn't too badly damaged, either.

ACTUALLY..... funny thing is i got online to come and post about my hit and run the other day, tuesday to be exact. it was not only my first hit and run but also the perfect ending to the shitty weekend i had before, let me just point out that it was my birthday weekend too....
any way my point is some jerk ass smashed up the front of my car that i havent evenhad for a full year yet. the reason im so upset is due to the damage, whoever hit my car knows they hit it, so rather than fess up they just ran away. and you wonder why i hate people....

I was in a hit and run accident a few years ago. And I followed the lady and called the cops. She ran because she didn't have car insurance and she had children in the care who weren't in car seats. And then a couple of months after that my car was parked in a parking lot and drunk guy hit my car coming out of a parking space but the cops never caught him.

Well good thing the cops got him, at least there is some hope of the legal system punishing him, although with his previous stuff you mentioned he probably doesnt have insurance? Definetaly listen to Ecstatics advice and be careful of whiplash and other soft tissue injuries.
Many years ago I was rear ended hard on a city road, I was in a slow down zone from 45 to 30 mph and just coasting down to the slower speed when I looked in my mirror just in time to see a pair of headlights (2:00 am) try to cross 3 lanes with me in the center one. I remember turning sideways 3 times trying to maintain control and then when I saw the car that rear ended me torun on a side street I tried to chase him but was still a little shook up and for some reason was having trouble shifting gears above 2nd, plus the other car appearantly had less to lose by driving like a complete madman. no plates and just hazy vehicle description and no witnesses, didnt even call the cops knowing there was nothing to go looking for.I did have a sore neck for about 2 weeks.

Nope. All the accidents I've had (none of them my fault save one). was resolved after pulling off to the side of the road. My mother however was in one, never caught the guy.
The one that was my fault didn't even cause any damage on either car. I just a bumped into her. She was still a bitch and we had to a cop come and I was out 95 bucks.
I've had the experience, too. My car was in my parking lot, no more than 100 feet from the gate entrance to my apartment complex and someone in a rickety cadillac slammed into the side. The car was parallel with other cars in the lot before, after it was perpendicular. The car was totaled, and I wasnt there at the time. There were 2 witnesses that gave conficting stories.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope that you are okay. I also hope that your
car wasn't damaged.
One of these days I'll tell you about the time I hit a police car.

It wasn't exactly a hit and run, but the oddest car accident I ever had went down like this: For 12 years, we lived in a condo where my parking spot was the second parking space outside our front door. There was a utility pole at the front of the parking space (just on my side of the line dividing my spot from my neighbor's).
One morning, five days before moving out of the condo into our new home (after 12 years living there, mind you), I was in the shower and heard a very loud "CRACK!!!" Our shower had a window overlooking the parking spaces. So I looked out, only to see the utility pole snapped off at the bottom and wavering back and forth held only by the guy wires. This only went on for a couple of seconds before gravity won out and down came the pole, crashing onto both my car (an '89 Honda Accord) and my neighbor's car, totalling both.
My neighbor's car actually got the worst of it: it was brand new (a '98 I believe), and the entire driver's side cutting diagonally into the body was crushed beyond salvage. Double whammy: because of the value of the new car, she would not receive full replacement value to buy an equivalent new car. That totally sucked.
For my car, the passenger's side front fender was smashed, but could be pounded out with a rubber mallet to be driveable. But the hood was sprung (I had to temporarily tie it down), and the guy wire nearly sliced through the roof, which was unrepairable. There was some other minor damage as well. Net: the insurance company totalled the car, writing me a check for somewhere around $1500.
The good news: while I had not planned to buy a new car and a new house in the same fiscal year, the car was 11 years old with 170,000 miles on it, so it certainly was time to trade it in. The dealer--with whom we had done business for years, having purchased one used and two new cars from them--gave me full trade-in value on the car despite the shape it was in. That came to another $1500, so I effectively got a $3000 trade-in on my new VW Passat wagon (which is still going strong 8 years later, btw). And despite being totalled, my Honda was driveable for the week or so it took to process the sale.
Very strange. Five days before moving out of the condo where I had lived for twelve years, what are the odds? I'm glad though that it didn't happen to the person who bought the condo a week after moving in, and I got a great price on my new car.

DAMN RAVES!!! I'm really sorry to hear that your thread topic is about an ACTUAL hit and run. Girl...I really hope you're okay
(You should REALLY follow the advice that Ecstatic had given you...REALLY girl!! )
I'm glad they caught the asshole who did it!!! Well... on a personal level...I WAS actually in a hit and run...I was the victim...and I was on foot. They never caught the person...who hit me...but THANK GOD no serious damage occurred to me.
( I was shook up like CRAZY though...and I had to walk with a cane for like, 2 months...but it could have been SO MUCH WORSE) The good thing is that you seem to be (relatively) okay (well...okay enough to post a thread about it!) I wish you well ...and I hope that you will be able to get through this without any further drama.

WOW! I see I'm not the only one that has gone through it. It really is a horrible feeling. Both the actual accident and the after effects. I honestly have to say, I've been feeling increasingly worse since that night. Dizziness, headaches, neck, back and shoulder pain, and I almost passed out in CVS. So not cool. I think I'll take that advice and look into further medical attention and a chircopractor.
It also sucks to just find out today that my Mom's insurance wasn't active. Let's hope the owner of the other vehicle had active insurance.

I really hope you come through it all ok, Raven. That's exactly the kind of physical reaction I was referring to. Often, there seems to be nothing "wrong" other than feeling shaken or maybe bruised or the like until a day or two later, then these other pains can set in. These too can be transient, and you may say, well, I'm feeling better now. But if you've gotten subluxations or soft tissue injuries, then it may be months before the symptoms really worsen, and the longer it goes, the worse it can become. So I would seek both an MD's and a chiropractor's advice and exam.
Best of luck, I hope you recover quickly.
