Webgoddess, the best thing to do is to put your pc behind a hardware firewall, such as a really good wireless router. Doesn't matter if you have only one pc or several; I'm a web professional (designer/developer and host several websites--non-adult btw), so I have five pc's at home behind my firewall. Hardware firewall is infinitely superior to software firewall: mine has two firewalls (NAT and SPI) plus 128-bit encryption. The IP address seen by anyone on the net is the router, not the pc; the pc's are secure and invisible behind the router.

One helpful hint: make sure you change the default username:password that the router comes with, because that is known.
