Really, I could use a little time off and I'm only an hour away, but have spent all day buying pumps and running around to find tools. This latest in a series of floods for me has submerged the furnace (Ending that problem once and for all).

Damn. I really would have enjoyed this night's theme.

Our primary problem this time around is that one of our new sump pumps is TOO good: actually, they're both the same, 40 gpm pumps, but the discharge from the one, thanks to the lay of the land, was coming back in along the foundation, and since the new pumps are basically sealed units (with removable lids), the water was just spreading with no outlet. That, with 4" of rain overnight in already saturated ground = disaster (but on a small scale, a pain in the butt but no real damage or cost beyond paying a friend $50 to correct the situation).

Hi Vickie,

Welcome back! Yes, we're finally dried out, so my studio is once again ready for work (I just did a photoshoot today for a friend of mine). It feels good to be back to normal.

I'm not sure when I'm going down, things are so crazy, but watch this space! I need to see my friend Venus soon--it's been a year already--so I'm going to try to schedule a trip soon. It may have to wait until mid-June, though.

Jordan, there are a number of nice hotels within walking distance of Kalina's gig. I recall that we walked for only about five minutes from the Marriott. It's not far off Market Street in the low numbers (Below City Hall/13th) and I recall Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden, and others in the neighborhood.

guys help me out here. I'm a dopey New Yorker who up until recently only thought of Philly as the team that beats the Mets.

I wanna go to Tierra Colombiana (4535 N 5 st) on a Thursday nite. I think its considered north Philly, wherever that is. what hotels are close by? Is it far from where you guys consider downtown?

I'd love to hit up a kalina party the same nite
any info from the locals would be appreciated

Yes, Alexander Inn (http://www.alexanderinn.com/) is basically about a block away. It's a neat little boutique hotel where every room is decorated differently. Don't stay at Rodeway Inn. There are bugs there, flies and roaches from what I've been told.

Yes, that is really far up north of downtown. If Market Street is considered 0 (the starting point of all address numbers) and Spring Garden is 600 North xx, then 4535 North 5th is really up there.
