Juliana, I read recently that filipina tgirls refer to themselves as "he" and "gay"--is this true? I don't know much about the filipina ts culture, but I've always assumed that it was one of the most enlightened (and certainly one of the largest; I think you posted once that there are over 250,000 TS in the Philippines?) and this seems a little odd to me, but it could be a cultural thing.

yes very true! but in school, work, i'm referred as a "she" and "miss" here in the philippines, the term "GAY" (bakla) in our own native tongue, is very general and broad! it doesn't classify... so filipina ts are still considered as gays

hello everyone... missed me ? ;)
We, Filipina TS's , doesnt really refer to ourselves as gays or he! but thats we normally tell people coz the term transsexual isnt known in the philippines and most people can really distinguish GG's from TS's ... its true, there are lots of TS's in the philippines but it doesnt really suggests that people has accepted that fact... remember, the philippines is dominantly Catholic...

Thank you both, Juliana and ShyGurl. I love to learn more about other cultures, and about how ts are in those cultures. Juliana, I can't imagine calling you anything but she! You're both very pretty. I didn't know the Philippines were predominantly Catholic, but duh, that makes sense given the Spanish colonization for 300 years. So the ratio of tgirls approaches that in Thailand, but other cultural differences (mainly Buddhist v. Catholic) make quite a difference in how tolerant the general public is about it. Thank you for enlightening me.

Thanks, Juliana, for bringing back this topic! That's an interesting read, especially regarding "swardspeak" which I have not heard of before. The Chart of swardspeak, Tagalog, and English is fascinating: "chiminey cricket" is obviously derived phonetically from the Disney cartoon character Jiminy Cricket, but directly from the Tagalog "chimay" or "maid" which has no association with Jiminy Cricket that I can see. Or "antiobiotic," which sounds like it is derived from "antibiotic" but actually comes from Tagalog "antipatika" and means "bitch"--interesting.
paglaladlad ng kapa: "coming out of the closet" in American slang, no? I wonder how many have "unfurled the cape" as opposed to remaining "in the closet"?
