Pluto? Well, I guess that's not quite as Goofy as Uranus...J/K. To bad I got Disneyland in my backyard I should know better...

Yet, I'm still waiting on the book entitled men are from Mars, Women are from Venus and Tgirls are from??? Anyone know that planet?

Pluto o - - - - - - - - - - - - - - O Earth

At what point in Pluto's orbit relative to the earth is this measurement? The minimum distance from the earth to Pluto is 28.6 AU ( 4.28 billion km or 2.66 billion miles - an AU or Astronomical Unit is the mean distance between the earth and the sun, 149 598 000 km or 93 million miles); the figure you quote suggests the farthest distance from the earth to Pluto (which would occur when the earth is on the opposite side of the sun from Pluto and Pluto is at aphelion (farthest point from the sun, or 49.31 AU (7.376 billion km or 4.583 billion miles), thus Pluto's farthest distance from earth would be approximately 50.31 AU (not accurate due to Pluto's eccentric orbit); the distance you cite is 39.6 AU. which sounds like the mean distance between the two.

Pluto's eccentric orbit is inclined 17.16° to the orbital plane of the eight planets; this orbit brings Pluto inside the orbit of Neptune for 20 years out of its 249 year orbital period (year); interestingly, Neptune was therefore the furthest planet from the sun between 1979 and 1999 (and is now, by definition, the furthest planet from the sun since Pluto is no longer classified as a planet).

LOL! Yeah, my friends joke that I have a data port in the back of my head and I just hook up USB to the PC and download. But seriously, I had the basics down (approximate distance, approximate orbital inclination, periodic intrusion of Pluto inside Neptune's orbit and the like) and Googled to nail down the actual details.

Don't worry in a year or two the astronomers could vote again and decide to make Pluto a planet again.

That whole thing is just a look at how the scientific sausage get's made. Not as neat as we would like to think is it?

bahaha that conjures up lots of mental images...

Multiple PHD's and millions of dollars in research allow them to decide that time (as an intagible object) is relative....

but get them all in a room together and they can't decide what's better....Deep Space Nine or Voyager.
