Been so busy this summer launching my new business that I haven't had time or money for any real vacation, but I did get away for a nice weekend in the Berkshires to see 60s icon Donovan perform (a 2 1/2 hour set!), then back home to host a great BBQ on the Fourth. And Labor Day weekend I'll be heading for the mountains in New Hampshire for a little R&R.

Went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg and attended some concerts...mainly shared some real good times with friends. I'm gald summer is almost over, because I hate the heat. This post reminds me of the inevitable essay from the english teacher at the start of a new school year.

Uh oh, what did I start? Ecstatic, why am I starting to see you and me as Jake and Elwood Blues from The Blues Brothers? I think we'd be up shit creek without a paddle, but I guess it wouldn't be too bad with Moni as the penguin!

I toured with a non profit youth organization and managed to have 3 near death experiences.
1. infected nerve ending in my brain.
2. small heart attack
3. cancer in my brain.

Quite a load of crap to deal with in a few weeks. Getting the tumor removed next week and then going on with my life as a happy person and enjoying life and all that it has to offer.

Well, so far this summer, my band toured Europe, we started out by hiring a road service and driver from the Czech Republic, and started off in Amstersdam, then ferried over to the U.K. for a week of shows up to Glascow and back down, then ferried back over to France and played all the major cities in France, Spain, Switz, Germany, Belgium, and finally ending back in Amsterdam for a few days off before flying back home. Thats my summer so far and now its almost over.

Chris, that's intense! I hope you are doing better, dude. I had hernia repair surgery and am currently coping with a cyst on my temporal process (sounds like a Doctor Who time travel gimmick, but it's the bone right behind the ear drum) which is mucking up the hearing in my right ear. But nothing life-threatening.

Hing, sounds like you've had an amazing summer tour!

This summer I went to alot of movies and bought alot of dvd's, also went to Island's of Adventure and Universal Studios a couple of times. At the same time I was shot at twice and was involved in several fights. So all in all it was pretty ordinary summer.

Chris,

That's some heavy shit to deal with. Is the cancer in your brain restricted to the tumor being removed? I hope everything works out.

About two and a half years ago, I had what the doctors generally agree was a stroke. I say "generally" because the five neurologists reviewing my case cannot categorically agree that it was just a stroke. There are ongoing issues, the source of which no testing can seem to explain. Thirty two years old and I had a stroke while in peak health. It took me five months to learn how to walk properly after said incident. Today, despite certain ongoing progressive issues, I give the external appearance of being in peak health.

They way I see it, it's all about perspective. I've done everything I have ever wanted to do, and I couldn't be happier with what I am doing now. According to the doctors, I could live to be a hundred (if they figure out what's going on) or I could be a largely incapacitated within the next two years (If they don't figure out what in the hell is happening to me). Either way, if this is the price I have to pay in order to live the life I have had to date, it has been and will remain to be totally worth it.

As for what I did this summer:

As one might guess, my summer has been filled with more tests. The remainder of my time has been split between work (which involves a lot of traveling) and vacation time. So far, this summer, I have vacationed in Kansas, Georgia, the Jersey Shore, Canada, and Mexico. I had to cancel a planned trip to Marakesh. This weekend, I'll head down to Georgia for the third time this summer and will probably spend what's left of it engaged in endless debauchery.

Thanks for the kind words people :) The thing I've learned most out of all of this is to enjoy myself and life a bit more. Less baggage and less fairweather friends in my life has greatly improved my outlook.

Hey Quinn, how the hell can I get a travelling job like that? I love to travel but my current job pays the bills and that's about it.

Glad to hear that the stroke issue has faded but sorry to hear that there is no particular cause as far as the neurologists know. Hope they figure it out for ya.

Biggest weekends were spent either at the Cape or the best weekend of the summer was in Montreal. Fantastic trip (my avatar pic is from it). Didn't see nearly the amount of concerts I had in previous years but am saving away currently so I can lavishly spend later. :)

Totally there on the Montreal thing. What a great city. It's definitely one of my favorite places to go, when I get the opportunity. Great food, people, culture, and music (in my case great jazz).

The Montreal Jazz Festival is incredible. I've been at least three or four times. Amazing acts, many free, others in outstanding venues. I've seen Charlie Musselwhite (free outdoors), Jazz Passengers with Debbie Harry, Lorena McKennitt, Jane Siberry, and many more. They close off several central city blocks to foot traffic only, with St Catherine Street in the center: St Cat, Jazz Cats, they have a lot of fun with it.

I've visited Montreal dozens of times over the years. It's definitely one of my favorite cities. The Musee des Beaux Arts, the BioSphere, the Botantical Gardens, the amazing restaurants, Mount Royal, it's all amazing. My only disappointment was Cleopatra's, which is supposed to be the TS hotspot of Montreal, but it was totally dead the night I went in (the fact that it was drizzling and about 40 F might have had something to do with that).

One of the great things about Montreal is that the city is constantly having a festival to celebrate one thing or another. Seriously, about the only thing they don't have festival for is leprosy. How can you not love a city that never stops partying?

Everytime i've been to Cleopatra's it's been dead too. I'm going to be in Montreal and Toronto at the end of Oct, so maybe this time i'll happen to go on a good night.

My summer has been an extraordinary one; not a summer filled with wonderful trips to amusement parks or concerts, but one of growth and realization. During the past few months, i have come out of the closet to many close friends and coworkers and even a macho brother about being bisexual, and i have come out about the trans aspect of my plans for the future to some lucky friends. I have gone from being far in the closet, to actually expressing myself to those i love and those with i share experiences. While there are many more steps i need to take to be competely out, i am making progress and finally accepting and expressing the girl ive always wanted to be in life. So, in a nutshell, my summer has been emotionally monumental! Oh...and i got fucked up and partied more days than i can count, so thats always good...lol!

Hing, let me know if you have better luck at Cleo's this time around. I hope to get back to Montreal soon--I usually get up at least once every couple of years so it's getting to be time again.

Katelyn, great to hear of your summer of growth. Shine on brightly! The future belongs to those who seize it.

you bet Ecstatic. It's just that, i've been to Montreal like at least 5 times just within the past 8 months or so, and as my bad luck would have it, im always there on a Sunday night which apparently is a terrible night to go. So hopefully my luck will change. But Montreal is always so over the top and fun, our fanbase there are some of the craziest we've experienced, they always dance and freak out, its always a crazy fun vibe in that city.
