Why do new members post new threads addressing themselves as newbies? Why not just post a regular thread and add "oh yeah.. and am new here too."

Kind of a mixed school of thought on this. For any other topic, I'd agree about just searching for the question/subject and adding a new post. For 'newbies' however, I think it's a social interaction thing (Yah, like I, the uber-hermit, really knows about 'social interaction'). Some of the individual threads turn into good discussions about mutual interests, cultural things, etc. that might not jive with the next or last 'noob' to come along.

For reasons possibly related to my dysfunctional, hermit-like nature, I don't recall ever doing any kind of introductory post on a forum or message board. I tend more towards a Cannonball Dive into a couple of the threads and sort out the respondents by those that say "Hey, man! That looks like fun!" and "Damn! Another noob invaded our space!" and tend to hang with the happy people. :D
