Tom Joyner's Nationally Syndicated Television Show Debuts This Weekend

Dallas, TX (BlackNews.com) - Building off his hugely successful career as radio personality, businessman and philanthropist, Tom Joyner debuts in his new lead role as host of the "The Tom Joyner Show," a nationally syndicated weekend music/variety television series that kicks off this weekend in more than 100 cities around the country.

"I've got eight million loyal, active listeners who can now listen to me on the radio every weekday morning and now watch me on TV every weekend," said Joyner, whose "Tom Joyner Morning Show" is a nationally syndicated radio show airing in 115 markets. "This show is strictly made for TV, bringing some of the great entertainment and laughs from my radio show straight from Hollywood to living rooms around the country."

The kick off show features performances by R&B singers Chante Moore and a steamy duet with her husband, Kenny Latimore. Future shows will feature performances by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Toni Braxton, Faith Evans, Keith Sweat, Wayne Brady and comedian George Wallace. The show will highlight performances by The Tom Joyner Players, which include Joyner's radio sidekicks: comedian J. Anthony Brown, Sybil Wilkes, Ms. Dupre and Myra J. Other segments on the show include off-beat local-market vignettes and "Toms Big Break," where raw talent demonstrates their skills.

An integral part of marketing the show has a strategy that involves cross promotion between Joyner's top-ranked syndicated morning radio show, the show's local radio affiliates and TV affiliates. Promotional ads for radio, TV and internet have been implemented for cross-platform marketing. Additionally, on-air contesting is generating 'watch and win' tune-in. The show's website, found by going to BlackAmericaWeb.com, features detailed information about where to watch the show, pictures and video clips from current and upcoming shows and bios on the key players.

The weekly, one-hour program, produced by DJ Entertainment and distributed by Litton Entertainment, is now sold in more than 75% of the country, with nine of the top 10 markets and 38 of the top 40 cleared, including New York City (WABC-TV) and Los Angeles (KABC-TV). Other major markets include: Chicago (WCIU, Ind.-Weigel), Philadelphia (WPHL, WB-Tribune), San Francisco (KBWB, WB-Granite), Dallas-Ft. Worth (KTXA, UPN-Viacom), Washington, D.C. (WBDC, WB-Tribune), Atlanta (WSB, ABC-Cox), Detroit (WDWB, WB-Granite) and Houston (KHWB, WB-Tribune), among others. The series will reach 90% of African American households in the U.S., with all 26 of the top 26 markets in the demo confirmed. Most markets will air the show in late night on Saturdays or in primetime on Sundays.

The show's executive creative team consists of a host TV show veterans: Ehrich Van Lowe, as executive producer, whose credits include the Emmy Award winning series The Cosby Show; Don Weiner, as director, whose career includes 16 seasons as the producer and director of the popular Its Showtime at the Apollo and most recently he and Supervising Producer Jeff Kopp worked on the popular show Monique's Fat Chance.

Joyner's success in attracting Blue Chip advertisers for his radio show has carried over to the TV show where first season sponsors include McDonald's, Procter & Gamble, Daimler-Chrysler and Southwest Airlines.
