Just back from my vacation and pretty happy with these photos.

These are unedited and retouched - I'll probably crop some of the them down a bit to make better images.

just read a great book by the former Monty Python member, Micheal Palin called Himalaya....
Picked it up in London last month, great book, he is a very excellent writer, dont know if you ever saw any of his other travel documentaries or books...Anway, if your into that sort of writing, (adventure), a great read....

Michael Palin's book was based on his travel show "Himalyas" which was on Discovery or Travel Channel last year and excellent (and one of the reasons that speeded up my decision to go here) - he's got a Sahara program on now which is excellent and also has done "Around the World in 80 Days" and "Pole to Pole" - I don't think he appeared as a lumberjack in any.

Camera is Sony 818 but going to update to the next Sony this month.
Thanks

Outstanding work, seanchai. I particularly like girl1, girl2, and girl3, the photos of the Buddhist monks, Lhasa at night, ladies2 and skillery. Composition, exposure, focus, all are superb. Great to see some of your fine art photos! You should consider posting some of these on iStockphoto.com or a top online photo gallery like pbase.com.

yes!
I got the same feeling after reading....Never was a part of the world I felt drawn to before. Havent seen the documentary yet, but a few of his others. If you like that, read his on the trail of Hemingway....Absolutely fascinating! and your right, there was no Lumberjacks!

No those girls were actually cement workers, repairing a monastry and they had their tools on their back.
I could hike up there but climbing would be a bit tough for me - 14,500 ft we definately felt the altitude but the Chinese herbal medicine helped.

I love the background in contrast to the foreground.
It makes the central figures look like they are part of something grander...

they're great...

Thanks everybody, I really appeciate your comments. I'm hoping to get an article and photos in Cigar Affecionado about a small cigar region we found in part of China which had surprisingly good 10c cigars and was indigineous to that specific place.
Tibet was fastastic, very hard to travel to the way we did (non-Chinese normally have to book a tour or have a guide, we arranged it so we didn't have to but it did cost a few yuan to do that). Some of the places we went everybody wanted to come up to us and chat.
A good juxtapose was after snapping Tibetan and Chinese for a few weeks, we were having a couple of days of Sofitel and Western food in Shanghai and Chinese and Japanese tourists wanted to take photos of us!

My cousin had a similar experience in china...

its amazing how many Chinese people have never seen a white person before. He was stopped in the street by random people to pose for photographs.

He often tells me that somewhere on someone's wall is a picture of a fat bearded git.....made famous only cause he's a white guy

ohhh funny funny funny.

Incredible pix, seanchai! Makes me want to book a flight straight away. :)

A friend travelled to Thailand a few years back and came back with some of the most amazing photos of the landscapes and temples that she saw there.

A wonderful corner of the world.
