Anyone watch Nip/Tuck last night? I'm curious about reactions to the depiction of transsexuals on the show. While flawed, I thought it was a much deeper treatment than tv usually provides.

I thought it was really intense, building on last season's love affair between one surgeon's teenage son and a post op TS played by Famke Janssen. He finds out that she was born a he, freaks out, tries to deal with it by exploring his sexuality, and goes to a tranny bar. There he meets a girl and gets drunk, then goes home with her and starts to make out. Suddenly he finds out that she has a penis (great portrayal of denial) and freaks and begins to hit her viciously. Later, he's cornered by her and 3 or 4 of her friends, and they beat him and then all piss on him. Very intense, but given the press around Gwen Arujo (sp?) recently, also very topical. It may have gone over the line, but it wasn't treating tgirls as some sideshow phenom like tv usually does, but instead as real people.

Any other takes on it? Or was this just too intense?

I cannot say I am a fan of that show, wow. That was the first episode I had ever seen (I downloaded it, it is season 3 episode 2). Just, to weird of a show for me. Gorilla plastic surgery and blood and guts and just oogly stuff.

As for the TG parts, other than the hateful son, I wasn't offended.

WOW, after seeing this thread, I made sure to see the show, although a fan in the past i really am going to make sure i watch it!! It was a great episode, but i really think the Ts should have been honest, it seemed that Matt was looking for a post op, had she told him maybe the outcome would have been different, but who knows thats up to the writers lol. The "revenge" segment albeit brutal I agree was justifiable...
