View Full Version : Laser vs Electro

I've had 3 laser treatments (and 2 clean-ups) so far, and the furry beast is definately falling out nicely. :) I was told that it may take about 5 or 6 full treatments to completely get rid of it. But then I've heard that people go back for occasional clean-ups for years! I do have some stray blonde, light red, and grey hairs. So, knowing that those will need electro, I'm starting to look for a good place that does it. But I'm curious about those of you did laser. Does it really come back monthes, or even YEARS later? :(

I've had it done for awhile now, and so far so good, although i did get a clean up, recently, not because i had too, but because I wanted too..

Laser vs Electrolysis
I did Electrolysis before..I didnt like the shock wave going thru the small needle to be honest. Plus it could cause scarring specially if your prone to keloids.
I tried laser treatment. Stings but definitely better. Down time is fast. Though I only went once.. since after that, the hair seems to fall out easy when I scrub my face with a loofa and a foaming cleanser.
But that was a year ago. And I know It was supposed to be done 2-3 times and spaced inbetween 1 1/2months (8 weeks) with each treatment. After the first, my facial hair lay dormat for awhile. Yay!
So I might go for my second time. Not because I have to but I guess the other hair that were not present at the time I had my 1st laser hair removal/treatment are coming out. Though not visible, as Im not hairy..It still bothers me when I feel up under the chin. LOL. A gurl afterall could be VAIN.

Harajuku,
I learned the hard and painful way that there are different types of lasers. The best, in my opinion, is what they use at the place that I currently go to. It releases a burst of cooling gas onto your skin a fraction of a second before the zapping. It's MUCH less painful than the ones that are just a laser, and nothing more. The first time I had it done, without that gas, it was extremely painful and made me cry. I didn't think I was going to be able to go for any further treatments because of the incredible pain. Then I went to see a drag queen friend of mine, who I knew had a good experience with laser. She told me about a place in Manhatten, which is the one I've been going to recently. If you've ever go again, I recommend that place; or at least that same type of laser. Here's a link. I know you live close to the city, so you may wanna keep them in mind just in case.

I guess time will tell how permanent it will be, but so far so good. Laser works well on dark hair, not on light. So, I am dreading the electrolysis, but thankfully there's not too much to do.

It sure is Dazz, I was doing elctro before i switched to laser, it's faster and less traumatizing lol than electro, plus depending where you go they have affordable session pakages.

Electrolysis is actaully invasive minor surgery. Look at the link I posted above. That laser is awesome. And that place charges $1,200 for 6 treatments and the 6 additional clean-ups. If at any point you are satisfied with what has been accomplished, they will refund your money for the remaining sessions; $200 for each one that you didn't need. Some places may charge less, but I can't tell you how much less painful that laser is compared to my first experience. One problem though. Laser does not work on light colored hairs. If you were a natural blond, you'd have to do electrolysis.

That is awesome! :D I'm happy for you, girl. It's obvious that you'll transition very nicely! My facial hair was the same way: thick and jet-black. All the more the laser can find those follicles. I can't tell you what a good feeling I got the first time I washed my face, and saw how many of those little stubblez had fallen out! :D If the doctor asks you how you want it, take it in the butt instead of oral... I MEAN THE HORMONES, SILLY! ;) They kick in better with getting them injected, and the pills are worse for your liver. But you probably already knew that anyway. Again, I'm very happy for you. Congrats!

I wouldn't recommend it, because that's where the follicles grow the most densely; especially right on the chin. Chances are you wouldn't get them all unless you left the Nair on for a LONG time, which will leave a chemical burn on your face.

HAHAHHA Girl in da booty ;) i know this was on a post somewhere but im actually doing this from home first...im starting on a very low dose and trust me i know my body like no other ;) this is my trial before i spend hundreds on a doc to tell me, okay here you go :D i dont want the shot yet i know its better but i wanna start off on a low dose :D see if its really for me, i think it is im so excited :D Anyways back on the topic :D awesome i cant wait for the lazer either also With nair for face, i dont think i would do anything like that... Ive tried this citrus stuff thats for the legs and body and face, and it burnt my face and i had a scab within one day on the top of my cheek hmmm now that i think about it maybe this is why i have this smooth spot right there, i never thought about that till now... oh yeah anyways... my hair will DIE!!!!!!!!!!! BWAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHA lol
Ps Just had a liver panel done just so yall know im in very great health ;) see i do care about myself :D

Calling to set up a consiltation for laser today :) Expecting to be told at the most $375 price for the first session and a little less for each after (that's what my friend got at this place, but I'm told I have less to get rid of). Definatly going to ask about a student discount, lol. Excited to finally start this.

Noooo...never use nair for sensitive areas such as your face. Your skin will burn! Dont use it either for your bikini line, ass etc other than your legs where its really intended. The skin by your private areas are sensitive not to mention thinner than the ones say on your legs and arms.
So Thats a BIG DONT!
If your hair isnt that thick and fine bleach it. So they go unoticeable. Or if theyre not that much then pluck. I mean unless ofcourse you got like a goatee or bread going on then that needs laser. But I dont see that with you Ms Dazz. You look asian to me and asian's genetic make up arent that hairy to start with.

Well yeah, I was looking for a cheaper alternative for the present. Can't afford electroysis or laser surgery right now. And Nair for Face Cream was designed for the face, no?

Nair for the face includes moisturisers and sweet almond oil. I think it depends upon the nature of your facial hair; most men should not try it because their facial hair is too heavy. Here's a description with cautions:
This formula is specifically designed to remove unwanted hair from delicate facial skin. It's an easy-to-use, effective system that's gentle on your skin. Sweet almond and baby oils moisturize your skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
Illustrated directions included with product.
Water, Mineral Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Calcium Thioglycolate, Calcium Hydroxide, Ceteareth No. 20, Sodium Thioglycolate, Sweet Almond Oil, Fragrance, Iron Oxides.
There's also Nair Microwavable Wax for the Face.
Irritation or allergic reaction may occur with some people even after prior use without adverse effect. Therefore, test before each use by applying Nair on a small part of the area where hair is to be removed. Follow directions and wait 24 hours. If skin appears normal, proceed with full application. Do not use on irritated, inflamed, or broken skin. Keep away from eyes. Should Nair touch the eyes, wash thoroughly with lukewarm water. If irritation occurs, consult your physician. Nair can be used on face and bikini areas. Do not use around eyes, in nose, in ears, or on breast nipples, perianal, or vaginal/genital areas. Keep out of reach of children.

Ecstastic, I tried Nair for Face Cream. IT seems better at removing hair if using a razor blade to wipe the cream off... I know I am supposed to use a warm washcloth to wipe it off, but it seems that the razor blade makes it even more efficient, because now my upper lip is very smooth, no visible hair or feel.

MsDazzler, I'm glad it worked for you. Makes sense that a razor would help. I think that the finer the hair follicles, the better it works (my beard, on the other hand, destroys razor blades....).
