Dinner with Kalina

I finally got to meet Kalina last night and I just got to tell you all that she is one smart, talented, sweet, engaging, funny, multi-faceted, and oh yeah gorgeous and sexy lady--but you already knew that, didn't you?

Following up on plans we'd made a couple of months ago, I took her to Montien, one of the finest Thai restaurants in Boston or the US. I had eaten there a couple of times before with my Thai friend Jasmin, who had given me a selection of dishes--in Thai script--to order. I handed the paper to the waitress, who loved it--"makes my job easier" she said--and we added a couple more items to the selection, giving us a huge Thai feast: sushi to start (spicy lobster and sea urchin), soft-shell crab curry, chicken, duck, sausage, and more. We had a great time talking about all sorts of things while enjoying this Thai feast. I hope Kalina feels the same way, but for my part, I felt that I really made a good friend last night

We then returned to her friend's apartment, where I met several wonderful people, and soon all walked over to Jacques, Boston's transgender nightclub (the restaurant, apartment, and Jacques are all within a few blocks of one another). I got to meet more new friends, and Kalina and I got to chat some more. I also got to see several guys hitting on her (who can blame them?). Around midnight I was ready to commence my 40-minute drive home, but Kalina convinced me to come back to her friend's apartment, where the conversations continued until finally, around 1 am, I staggered out (not literally, though I did have three Scotches last night) and drove home.

Not only did I finally have the great pleasure of meeting Kalina, but also of making several new friends into the bargain. I had such a great time! Kalina, I promise one of these days I'll make it down to Philly!

Hi Ecstatic! Yes, I hope we do become good friends because I think you're smart, funny, witty, and charming. I must admit, that was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The sheer array of food was impressive... and the soft shell crab dish was so totally out of this world! The pork sausage with rice noodles was extraordinary (you would never think that "pork sausage" could be so good). The tamarind (pineapple) duck was awesome. That little lobster carved out of a raw carrot was totally cute. The servers were very nice and the location was excellent because it was so close to my friend's place that I was staying at.

I had to apologize to Ecstatic because I was a little late for our 6pm dinner because I was just getting out of a photoshoot.

Angela, that's wild! Not even six degrees of separation. I wonder if I saw or spoke with him? The place was packed. It was my first time at Jacques; I tend to not go to bars or clubs alone, but going with friends is fun. The crazy thing is that a couple of years ago Jacques was written up in Bridal magazine and is now the IT spot in Boston for bachelorette parties--there were three bridal parties there Saturday night.

Kalina, I think the soft shell crab remains my favorite, followed by the tamarind duck. That lobster carrot was amazing. And the sushi was fine, especially the sea urchin. Of course, at the end of the dinner I fumbled my Thai, saying "khopkhun kha" to the waitress when I should have said "khopkhun khrap" or "khopkhun mak," but she smiled at the attempt. (Khopkhun means thank you, and if you're the woman you say kha and if you're the man you say khrap, or you say khopkhun mak, thank you very much.)

And Kalina, you have nothing to apologize for: it was my bad for not making the reservation a couple of days in advance. I'm used to calling a restaurant 4 or 5 hours ahead of time, but it seems these days a day or two is needed, as I had tried for 6:30 but had to settle for 6:00.

I have my own humorous part to add to this thread. Been talking to this 22 yo guy in my area for a few months now who also just graduated (supposed to meet very soon) and he was in Boston this weekend for an all-star game. I had read this thread earlier and I see him sign on to AIM, just got home from his weekend in Boston. I chat with him a bit and he says he went to a club in Boston. I immediatly say "Jacques" and he says yes. Knowing that Kalina and Ecstatic were both there I gave my best physical description of each to ask if he saw them and he said "yes". I am all knowing!! lol

Hmmmm... I only remember seeing one guy who looked rather young and he walked up to where me, Ecstatic, Silvia (the one in my photoshoot pic), and Christina were and said hello to all of us and talked with us for a little bit. He was cute.

But wait... you could just show him the picture of me and Ecstatic!

It looks like and sounds like you two had fun.
