I want to get one. A stemmed rose lying horizintally. Originally I was thinking my lower back, but I'm told in hurts more. So my next thought is my hip. I thought about it for years but never did it.

actually, depending on where it is on yoru hip, it may hurt more.
general rule for tattoos- bone is what hurts. so the only part of your lower back that will hurt (more) is when they go over your backbone.

Yeah, I've been told that... but I don't think the bone is as close to the surface as my spine is. But since I don't know all that much about bone structure and such, I can't say. I could try my waist.

most painful place is supposed to be the riibs.
mine stung when they got to to the softer part close to my arm pit and when they went over my collar bone. when they go over bone it vibrates your whole body.

I was heavily into temporary tattoos for a couple of years. I know it doesn't count, but I thought they were cool, especially the ones that looked like they could be real.
