As you all know today was the 4th yr anniversary of Sept the 11th, 2001. I always get asked "do you rememeber where you were, what you were doing the morning of 9/11/2001?" Well, i remember at that time i was dating my now ex girlfriend of 3 yrs, a Japanese girl, and we were out at the club spending time with our friend who i call Candyman ( i gave him that nickname when he was younger because all he ever did was eat candy). And he was planning to take the Bonanza Bus back to Manhatten after last call, his bus was at 4 am or something. So me and my GF got back to my place, and watched some tv for a while,, i remember we watched "Maude" on tv-land, and fell asleep. The next thing i know my roomate Niki was bursting in the door waking both of us up saying my mom called and told me to turn on the news. Still in a daze, i turned it on, and basically saw the 2nd plane hit as it happened live, as well as the buildings falling. My GF was thoroughly freaked out.
anyway, one of the first things that came to my mind was my friend Candyman, because he should be arriving around that time. It turns out, after he got of the bus, he was walking home, when it happened
does anyone else want to share thier story, where were you, what were you doing that day?

I had just gotten in town from Dallas the night before and My boyfriend(at the time) woke me up to watch TV, at first I thought it was a movie or something, then the reality set in, it was really surreal. Another vivid memory was the miles of lines to the gas stations, great topic btw

damn i was trying to avoid this one but not for unpatriotic reasons...

Here we go. Im in Med class about to get stuck with a needle (practice for tests....suddenly someone who went out for a bathroom break ran into the room and said the twin towers are falling...I got so confused concentrating on that needle i did not know what she said... everyone ran out...i threw my tourniquet off and ran to the tv where all the people were and seen as the twin towers started crashing live on tv...hearing everyone crying and running to the phones calling thier loved ones....

I was in the Navy at this time studying to become a corpsman (medical) and as a result of this, i went straight to field medical training soon as i graduated.

Now i am 1 yr 5 mos out and 1 yr transitioning im in a much better situation now cause i recently called my job in the navy and they said " funny that guess whos supposed to be scheduled to go to iraq...." It was me on the list after bieng out for a year haha I did my time in Iraq i needent go back. I wouldnt do it again for the world.

btw 1 yr transistioning means i was a drag femm till december 7th and then went full time...dont want anyone to get it wrong...i know im always saying i just started, well going full time and drag are two different things ;)

KaMile, first i would like to say thanks for responding to this, i hope that my starting this topic did not offend you in anyway that made you want to avoid this, as that was not my intention, i understand this topic is a very heavy one for some of you so if anyone out there reading this has become upset from it, i apologize to you.
Secondly, i would also like to say that i'm glad that you didn't have to go back to Iraq!. For many reasons, most i will not get into here because i wouldn't push my political views on anyone in here (i'd save that for the other board, hahaahahah), and or bore anyone else with them, but to get back to what i was saying, im glad that you're doing what your doing now, and were not forced to go back to Iraq. By the way you look great, and the best of luck to you.

Sitting on a UA plane between Tokyo and Bangkok - I got off and called my friend who told me, I thought it was a joke!
Stayed in Bangkok for 6 weeks watching what was happening.

I was on the road just leaving town to visit a friend in southern Indiana. I remember listening to the radio comedy program called "The Bob and Tom show" They always have fake news reports with messed up punch lines. I heard a news break talking about something happening to the twin towers and couldn't figure out how this was supposed to be funny and when I realized it wasn't a joke I was just in shock. Kinda makes one realize that life can truly be too short and not ever take anything for granted. Especially the ones you love.

I was at an attorney's office participating in a closing for some property I was buying in Manhattan. We were about 15 blocks away when the first plane hit. I remember another attorney sticking his head through the door near the very end of the closing and telling us that a plane had just struck the WTC. For some reason, I thought it was a small plane, like a Cesna or something, not a whole jet airliner. We took another few minutes to finish the closing then went into the reception area and turned on the television to see what was happening. I couldn't believe the extent of the damage... We all saw the second plane hit. At that point my business partner (who was there for the closing) and I started to make our way uptown as it was clear an attack was under way. I remember walking into my apartment sitting down and not sleeping or eating for almost two days.

I had friends who worked at the WTC. Some never made it. To hell with Islam...

I was in bed, the boy tattood on my arm called right after the first plane hit the tower. I was watching the news and I thought it was an accident until I actually saw the second plane hit right when it happened. I felt like the world was ending cuz we were also coping with the loss of Aaliyah.

History is a muthafucker. I really think when some of us tell our grandchildren these stories they won't believe it. Sounds like a movie with all the wars, katrina, terrorattacks, tsunamis, bill getting his dick sucked, martha going to jail, etc.

When I was growing up everything seemed picture perfect. I wonder as time goes on if my children will have the same luxury of growing up care-free like I did. :(

I along with my ex and two other friends were on our way to pick up some food from a lil Dominican Restaurant in Brooklyn, off of Atlantic and Nostrand Aves. We saw the smoke coming from the north tower and we when entered the establishment everyone was watching the news and at that time it was believed that someone had accidentally struck the tower with a small aircraft. We picked up our food and returned back to Bedford Atlantic, "Castle Greyskull" the shelter where we were all staying at the time, to find everyone looking out the window on the third floor towards Manhattan. The Television was on in the recreation room which was located on the third floor of the old armory, and people were going between looking at TV and watching the scene from the window.
We arrived to the window just in time to see the horrific scene of the second plane crashing into the south tower....we couldn't believe our eyes, so we looked back at the TV and saw it again.
It seems like there was a never ending sound of sirens and emergency vehicles heading towards Manhattan from Brooklyn.
I remember how they shut down the transit system between Manhattan and Brooklyn, and all the people that had went to Manhattan earlier in the day had to walk back to the shelter.
How several local television stations lost their signal when the north tower collapsed due to the fact that they had their transmitters on the roof of the north tower, and there were only a couple stations broadcasting for awhile.
For several reasons I will never forget September 11, 2001.

Good point, Moni, and I hope that the world can move beyond terrorism and that we can manage far better local, national and international relief in times of natural disaster so that kids can grow up more carefree. But you know, it's always something. I grew up in the 50s and 60s: Leave It to Beaver, Father Knows Best, Dick Van Dyke, all of that. Yet in grade school we learned to hide under our desks in event of a nuclear attack (as if that would help), built bomb shelters, watched a President assassinated on live TV, and entered a war even uglier than the one burning now in Iraq. So it's always something. Kids are amazingly resilient, but all of us adults should strive for a healthier, saner, more tolerant and peaceful world for the next generation to inherit.

well with all the countries mass producing nuclear warheads i doubt the future is bright. it's every bomb's destiny to explode. they don't build them for nothing.

Sad but true: case in point, land mines. I shudder everytime I hear about some kid playing in a field who loses a leg or his life to one of the millions of land mines just laying around unexploded.

I don't worry so much about nuclear holocaust or nations launching nuclear strikes; the real worry in the 21st century I think is dirty bombs, suitcase nukes which will only blow out a city block but spread radiation and kill 100s or 1000s horrifically.

Yeesh, what a thought. I'd better go look at some porn quick....

I was the only one in my cube farm out of about 80 or so that had a radio turning between local coverage and Howard Stern. It got to a point where I had to get up and pee, so I told my manager what was up and just about everybody tried to find either a TV or an Internet connection with streaming video. Two folks that worked for the company I worked for were on the plane that hit the north tower.
